Designed to empower everyone, including visually impaired players, SK Chess ensures an inclusive and seamless experience for creating, viewing, and analyzing chess games in PGN format. User Guide

Installation Instructions

  1. Download SK Chess: Click here to download SK Chess. Temporarily disable your antivirus software if required to complete the download and installation process.
  2. Install SK Chess:
    • Navigate to your Downloads folder or the location where you saved the downloaded file.
    • Click on the installer file.
    • If Windows Defender attempts to block the installation, click on "More Info" and then select "Run Anyway."
    • Follow the setup instructions, keeping the default settings. Make sure to check the option to "Create a Desktop Shortcut" for easier access.

Interface Overview

SK Chess has five main navigable areas accessible through the keyboard:

  1. Select Game: Displays the list of games if a PGN file is open. Select a game and press the Tab key to proceed.
  2. Game Area: Type notations (e.g., Nf3) to make moves. Use Left and Right arrow keys to navigate through the game. Use Up and Down arrow keys to navigate moves within a variation dialog.
  3. Annotation: Displays comments added to the current move.
  4. Board: The current position is presented in text format. Uses the IBCA phonetic alphabet for clarity: Anna (A), Bella (B), Cesar (C), David (D), Eva (E), Felix (F), Gustav (G), Hector (H).
  5. Engine Suggestions: Displays analysis from engines like Stockfish if loaded. Navigate moves with Up and Down arrow keys. Press Space to accept and explore specific suggestions.

SK Chess is equipped with several shortcut keys to optimize efficiency. These functionalities are also accessible through menus:

    • Open (Ctrl + O)
    • Save Game (Ctrl + S)
    • Paste Game (Ctrl + V)
    • Copy Game (Ctrl + C)
  • Speak Menu (Alt + S):
    • Speak Position (Alt + P)
    • Speak Annotation (Alt + A)
    • Speak Last Move (Alt + M)
  • Game Menu (Alt + G):
    • New Game (Ctrl + N)
    • Delete Move (Alt + D)
    • Load Engine (Ctrl + E)
